Grand prize winner of the window decorating contest in West Jefferson

The village of West Jefferson and the West Jefferson Community Association sponsored a fall-themed window decorating contest and scarecrow design contest.

The winners were announced Oct. 31 during trick-or-treat festivities. The top window decorators received a $25 Flyer’s Pizza gift card and $25 cash. Other prizes were as follows: first, $25; second, $15; third, $10. All other entrants received $5 participation awards.

The following businesses donated to the contests: Chevron, Ann & Tony’s, Dr. Corey Amann, Lifetime Vision, Huntington Bank, West Jefferson Animal Hospital, The Happy Druggist, Flyer’s Pizza, ProFormance 1, The Daily Buzz, At The Buzzer, West Jefferson Plumbing and Heating, and West Jefferson Hardware.

Window Decorating Winners

  • Grand Prize: Huntington Bank window painted by Mark Dodds and family;
  • Second place (adult/family): Todd’s Pizza window painted by Sarah Melfi and Girl Scout Troup 1408;
  • Third place (adult/family): Red & White Store window painted by Amy Watson;
  • First place (students): Real Living Anders window painted by Mihaly Galloway, Alyssa Maxwell and Johnny Galloway;
  • Second place (students): West Jefferson Plumbing & Heating window painted by Payton Smith, Logan Turner, Juan Santiago and Jake Gookin;
  • Third place (students): ProFormance 1 window painted by Allison Gookin, Emily Harper, Emma Hostettler and Harley Johnson.

Scarecrow Winners

  • First place tie: “Dorothy” designed by Abbie & Harleigh Bendure; “Wallace” designed by Belinda Ewing and Austin, Noah, Sofia and Lucy Darlington;
  • Second place: “Crow” designed by Jacquelyn Johnson;
  • Third place: “Jack O’Lantern, aka Harold’ designed by Theresa Comer and Gracin Fields.

Of special note: Bob Pierce once again painted the Village Hall doors.
