Santa and Mrs. Santa Claus are shown here during one of their past visits to the Groveport Log House.

The city of Groveport will not hold its annual Christmas event, “A Heritage Holiday,” this year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but Santa Claus will still make an appearance in town.

“With the ongoing safety protocols related to COVID-19, the annual A Heritage Holiday will not be held this year,” said Groveport City Administrator B.J. King. “We look forward to having this, and all community events, in 2021. Public events are important to communities. The nature, and purpose, of public events is to bring people together to celebrate an event or a holiday, and so on. Unfortunately, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic makes it very difficult to hold the traditional public events in 2020. We are excited to offer the public events in 2021.”

King did say the city will embrace the holiday spirit by installing the city’s Christmas lights around town as usual.

Santa Claus is coming to town
“We made a call to the North Pole and have arranged for Santa to be in Groveport in order to spend some socially distanced time with his little friends,” said Groveport Community Affairs Director Patty Storts.

Santa Claus will visit the Groveport Log House in Heritage Park, 551 Wirt Road, on Dec. 4 from 5-9 p.m. and Dec. 11 from 5-9 p.m.

Register to visit with Santa Claus in-person at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, or online at www.groveportrec.com.

A limited number of time slots are available for each day. The fee is $5 for Groveport residents and $8 for non-residents per family. No more than four family members may visit with Santa at a time. If you have a large family, you may need to register for multiple time slots. Time slots are approximately seven minutes long.

According to city officials, do not arrive at the park any sooner than 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Park in the lower parking lot of Heritage Park. All persons must remain behind barrier in the Log House so that proper social distancing may be maintained. All persons planning to enter the Log House will have their temperature taken and will participate in a COVID-19 Symptom Check. Face coverings are required.

For information call Groveport Town Hall at 614-836-3333. The Santa Claus event is brought to you by the City of Groveport Recreation and Community Affairs departments.
