The London Rotary Club is pleased to honor senior Abigail Holbert as Madison-Plains High School’s December Student of the Month.
Students of the month are selected by school administrators based on their academic and extracurricular achievement and positive character.
Holbert has a 4.063 grade point average. She is a four-year member of the Madison-Plains FFA chapter, where she has served as sentinel and currently serves as vice president. She also is captain of the equine judging team.
For four years, Holbert has been a member of the Spanish Club, this year serving as club secretary. For three years, she has been in Chess Club, this year serving as club secretary. She was a three-year member of the marching band and was a squad leader for one year. She has been in Key Club and is a member of the National Honor Society.
When asked to name a school staff member who inspires her, Holbert named Spanish teacher, Victoria Opalla.
“Señora Opalla encourages students to reach out to her over any issue. She is willing to assist students with not just Spanish homework but with other classes and life,” Holbert said.
About Holbert, Opalla stated, “Abby is one of those students who inspires me to do my best as a teacher; she makes my job easier. She is a curious and independent learner. She is an avid reader, and I seldom see her without a book.”
After graduation, Holbert plans to attend a four-year college to study zoology and conservation science and then attend veterinarian school. She is the daughter of Brian and Megan Holbert.
The London Rotary Club has a proud history dating back to 1929. It is a member of Rotary International, a volunteer organization of 1.2 million business and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service and help build good will and peace.
