The London Rotary Club is pleased to honor senior Ciara Cooney as London High School’s November Student of the Month.

Students of the month are selected by school administrators based on their academic and extracurricular achievement and positive character.

Cooney has a 4.24 grade point average and is ranked second in her class. Her favorite class is Art IV. Cooney played volleyball and ran track her freshman year and played tennis for three years. She has earned two varsity letters. She is a member of National Honor Society, the International Thespian Society and Quick Recall. She enjoys theater and has participated in numerous plays and musicals. She served as student director for this year’s fall play, “The Nerd.”

When asked to name a school staff member who inspires her, Cooney named Stacey Hallowes.

“Mrs. Hallowes has a knack for seeing the best in me and pushes me to be a better student,” she said. “She is always friendly and never hesitates to offer her time to help me with my projects. It is because of her that my art has grown over the past four years.”

About Cooney, Hallowes said, “Ciara has been a student of mine for four years and is one of the most mature and dedicated students I have. I admire her ability to balance high school, sports and extracurriculars with college courses, taking full advantage of everything offered to her.

“She has an amazing grasp on life and exudes happiness and positivity every single day, never leaving my room without a smile and a happy farewell.  Artistically, Ciara creates 3-D projects that are mind-boggling. She is so detail-oriented and has confidence with most any type of medium thrown her way–a dream art student.”

After graduation, Cooney hopes to obtain a bachelor of science degree in nursing and work to become a physician’s assistant. She is the daughter of Patrick and Christine Cooney of London.

The London Rotary Club has a proud history dating back to 1929. It is a member of Rotary International, a volunteer organization of 1.2 million business and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service and help build good will and peace.
