Rock named All-State; Cruiser softball team has successful season

Groveport Madison varsity softball catcher Jessie Rock, a junior, was named first team All-State.

Rock was also named first team All-District, first team OCC Ohio Division, and player of the year in the Ohio Capital Conference.

Rock slugged 15 home runs this season, including hitting a home run in a state record eight consecutive games. She batted .398, had 39 RBIs, scored 26 runs and received 14 intentional walks.

Other Cruiser varsity softball Ohio Capital Conference award winners this year were: Sara Gockenbach, first team OCC Ohio; Lanie White, second team OCC Ohio; Shyla Shirkey, OCC special mention; Jodi Kern, OCC honorable mention; and Shelby Hobson, OCC scholar athlete award.

Cruiser team award winners were: Sara Gockenbach, most valuable player; Lanie White, best defensive player; Jessie Rock, best offensive player; Alexis Preciado, most improved player; Shyla Shirkey, Kris Ensign Coaches Award; Jodi Kern, Cruiser Leadership Award; and Aleah Brown, JV Spirit Award.

The varsity softball Cruisers finished second in the OCC Ohio Division with a record of 11-3. The team’s overall record was 18-12.
