Reynoldsburg residents and visitors can get into the holiday spirit this coming week with several events, culminating in the popular Christmas on the Town in Olde Reynoldsburg.
The season will officially begin with the city’s tree lighting ceremony, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 7232 E. Main St.
Before Mayor Bob McPherson throws the switch to illuminate the community’s light display, a choir from French Run Elementary School, under the direction of Betsy Fox, will sing holiday selections.
The Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival queen and court will serve cookies, and the Reynoldsburg Republican Women will offer hot chocolate.
Christmas on the Towne, in Olde Reynoldsburg east of the Main Street bridge, will don its gay apparel from 3-8 p.m., with merchants opening their doors and special activities for all ages.
From 3 to 6 p.m., horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered for a donation to the Helping Hands pantry, which offers assistance to families within the Reynoldsburg school district with everything from food and clothing to utility payments.
A raffle for a treasure basket of holiday goodies will also benefit Helping Hands.
Little elves will be able to visit Santa and purchase and gift wrap presents for family and friends at the Secret Santa Shop at Dance One. The shop is staffed by members of the Reynoldsburg High School marching band.
The Reynoldsburg Youth Football League will hold a crafts sale at the bingo hall at the intersection of Main Street and Waggoner Road.
Both the Livingston House, on Graham Road, and the Reyonoldsburg-Truro Historical Society Heritage Center, on Jackson Street, will be decked out and open for tours.
A shuttle bus will be running to take visitors to shops and restaurants along Main Street.
Also on Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Eugenia chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will hold its annual homemade ham and bean dinner at the Reynoldsburg Masonic Lodge, 7350 Broadwyn Drive.
A dinner, including corn bread, dessert and beverage, will cost $5. Dinners with hot dogs and sloppy jos, will also be served for $4. Dine-in and carry-out meals will be available. Crafts and home-made candy will also be sold.
