Members of Boy Scout Troop 71 of Groveport are shown here retiring worn out, faded, and tattered American flags at a flag retirement ceremony held Oct. 6 in Groveport Park. "Fire represents the spirit of patriotism and is the most dignified way to ceremonially retire the flag," said Boy Scouts Senior Patrol Leader Anthony Spears. Troop 71 plans to hold another flag retirement ceremony in April. Troop 71 was organized in 1929 and currently has 13 members including Michael Bass, Aaron Benson, Chris Benson, Judah Bliven, Travis Booth, Jonathan Bumgardner, Mark Burris, Richard Burris, Ethan Stahlman, Evan Stahlman, Erik Starkey, Aaron Swearingen, and Tommy Vanatta.
