Following the death of Ward 3 London City Councilman Robin Reed, the Madison County Republican Central Committee is searching for an individual to fill the vacancy.

Ohio law dictates that the person who fills the seat must be of the same party as the person who previously held the office. Reed was a Republican. His two-year term expires at the end of 2009.

The Republican Central Committee is asking individuals who live in Ward 3 who are interested in completing the unexpired term to send resumés to Steve Saltsman, the committee’s secretary, by Aug. 1 at 102 N. Madison Rd., London, OH 43140.

The 10 members of the Central Committee who live in London will interview the candidates at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Madison County Emergency Management Agency office on Elm Street, near the Madison County Fairgrounds and Sheriff’s Office outpost. The meeting is open to the public.

A decision must be made no later than 45 days after the seat was vacated. Reed died on July 11. Saltsman said the Central Committee likely will make their selection the night of the interviews.

The other members of London City Council are: Jim Canney, president; Rodney Lauer, Ward 1; Gene Graves, Ward 2; Stan Kavy, Ward 4; Bill Beathard, Richard Minner and John Stahl, at-large.

For more information, call Steve Saltsman at 740-852-3115, the City of London administrative offices at 740-852-3243, or the Madison County Board of Elections at 740-852-9424.
