Did you attend Madison South High School or know someone who did? If so, there’s a new keepsake available that encapsulates the school’s 14-year history.

“The Lion,” named for Madison South’s mascot, is a bound booklet featuring class photos, candid photos, reunion photos, commencement programs, faculty lists, details about the basketball team that made it to the state semi-finals in 1961, and other memories. Copies are available for purchase.

Madison South was the result of a consolidation of the Madison Rural, Midway and South Solon schools in 1957. In 1971, Madison South and Mount Sterling consolidated to form Madison-Plains. What was Madison South High School later served as Madison-Plains Middle School and is now Madison-Plains Intermediate School.

Graduates Julie Dorn Wilson (Class of 1957) and Roberta McCormick Byerly (1960) came up with the idea of putting together the Madison South booklet. They formed a committee that also included Marjorie Dorn Daniels (1963), Carol Daniels Foster (Class of 1969), and Marty Mace (1968).

“Carol found all of the class composites. Each class representative was responsible for sending in photos for their class activity page,” said Mace. “A lot of remembrance came back in getting pictures for the book from schoolmates. It’s a good project because it will be a keepsake for everybody.”

The first copies of “The Lion” were distributed at the Madison South alumni banquet on June 27. Nearly 180 people attended the banquet, which takes place annually in June and is open to graduates of all 14 classes.

Copies of the booklet can be purchased at Wilson Printing & Graphics, 158 S. Main St., London. The cost is $18. Or copies can be mailed for $20; send checks to Marty Mace, 24920 Locust Grove Road, Williamsport, OH 43164. Checks should be made payable to “Madison South Alumni Association.”

Proceeds from the booklet sales will go to the alumni association for scholarships for Madison-Plains graduates whose families have ties to Madison South.

The Madison South Fight Song

Stand up and cheer

We’re gonna cheer for Madison South

For today we raise

The good old scarlet and grey

Above the rest.

Our boys are fighting,

And we are bound to win this game!

We’ve got the team. Rah! Rah!

We’ve got the steam. Rah! Rah!

So hear our Lions roar! Hey!
