Remember When: Whiteys grocery

From 1951 to the mid-1960s, Elza Ellsworth “Whitey” Penwell and his wife, Margaret, owned and operated Whitey’s Carryout at 146 S. Oak St. in London. Gorman Penwell, one of Whitey’s sons, submitted these photographs. He remembers a lumberyard being located next to the store. The building is vacant and remains in the family.
