Remember When: Sheriff

This photo shows the residence and offices of the Madison County Sheriff. The sheriff at the time this picture was taken, between 1911 and 1915, was Ernest W. McCormack. The individual on the porch is McCormack’s son, Robert. He is the father of Ann (McCormack) Martin who submitted this picture.

This residence and jail were bid on three times. The contract was finally awarded on Aug. 10, 1891, in the amount of $27,885. The commissioners accepted the building along with the courthouse on July 16, 1892.
