Remember When: Flag donated by 4-H club

As a community service project, the London Woodblazers 4-H Club presented a flag to the Madison County commissioners in the mid-1960s.

The gentleman on the left raising the flag was Roy McNeal, the courthouse custodian. The gentleman standing next to McNeal was Commissioner Edward Pennington.

Earl Ballenger, the writer of this column and one of the club’s advisors at the time, is behind the flag. The other gentleman, Charles Fisher, also was a club advisor. The boys standing in front were members of the club. 

This photo is printed in honor of Flag Day which is celebrated on June 14.
