|Among the players on the 1943-44 basketball team at Madison Rural School were: Downing, guard; Fout, forward; Henry, forward; Sheesq, center; Miller, guard; Smart, guard. We do not know the order in which the players appear in the photo, other than that Wayne Henry is seated in the front row, second from right.
Madison Rural’s record was 1 win and 9 losses. The win was against South Solon, 25-24. Other teams in the league were Plain City, Canaan, West Jefferson, Monroe, Rosedale, Fairfield, Mount Sterling and Midway.
Playoffs had Plain City winning the County Court Title with Canaan coming in second, West Jefferson third, Monroe fourth, and Rosedale fifth. Plain City and Canaan represented the county in the District B tourney that year.
