London’s radio station, WCYC-LP 105.1 FM, offers two new ways to get your London High School football fix—the “Coach Bill Dennis Daily Show” every weekday morning and the “Red Raider Roundtable” every Tuesday night.

Joe Watson, a teacher and football coach at London Middle School, as well as president of the London Athletic Booster Club, hosts the weekday morning show. He and Dennis go live at 6:45 a.m. Monday through Friday from WCYC’s studio at the London Armory. A recorded version of the 15-minute program airs again at 8 a.m. and noon each day.

“The idea here is to promote not only our football program but also our kids,” Dennis said. “We want to highlight the good things going on, not only on the football field but also in the community.”

During the show, Dennis recaps games, talks about practices, gives injury reports, spotlights certain players, analyzes opponents, and gears up for upcoming games. When possible, Watson interviews players. Contests yield prizes of London spirit gear.

Dennis, now in his third year as head coach at London, isn’t new to the microphone. He participated in a similar show in his days as coach at Chillicothe.

Before becoming a teacher, Watson worked in radio and television. He brought his expertise to the classroom, where his students put on a daily in-school television program. He was a natural to host the daily radio show with Dennis.

“It’s an early day, but it’s fun,” Watson said.

The Tuesday night roundtable is a longer program broadcast live at 7 p.m. from Ronetti’s Pizza at 23 S. Main St. in downtown London. The first roundtable aired Aug. 19 and featured the Urbana coach and some of his players as special guests. Dennis hopes to get other opponents’ coaches to take part in the show during the season. WCYC’s sports director, Rick Hartman, is the roundtable moderator.

In addition to the new daily show and the weekly roundtable, WCYC covers London’s football games each Friday night. Station Manager Ron Otto hosts a pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. from the Armory. Then, Hartman covers the game live, starting with kick-off at 7:30, followed by play-by-play commentary. A post-game show runs until 11 p.m.

More play-by-play will be coming London fans’ way this winter as WCYC adds Red Raider basketball coverage to its programming. Brian Stewart, who serves as the station’s sideline reporter during football season, will provide the hoops play-by-play.

Year-round, WCYC hosts “Sports Slam” from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, talking about everything from local sports to the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds.

Everyone involved in the London High School football coverage is a volunteer, including Hartman, Otto and Stewart who hold down full-time jobs elsewhere.

“I think it’s great that we are using a London radio station to talk about London for London listeners,” Watson said.
