Close races for seats on Reynoldsburg City Council and the Reynoldsburg Board of Education means recounts will be necessary, according to the Ohio Secretary of State and the Franklin County Board of Elections.

The certified results from the Franklin County Board of Elections from the Nov. 7 election for these races are:

•City Council (three elected): Kristin Bryant, 3,258; Barth Cotner, 3,188; Stacie Baker, 3,145; Kelly Cruse, 3,143; Chris Long, 2,914; and Aaron DeLong, 2,787.

A recount is necessary because Baker and Cruse are separated by only 2 votes.

•Board of Education (three elected): Jeni Quesenberry, 4,402; Joe Begeny, 3,955; Robert Barga, 3,117; Robert Truex II, 3,110.

A recount is necessary because Barga and Truex are separated by only 7 votes.

Recounts are required when there is less than one half of one percent difference between the declared winning candidate and the candidate who received the next highest number of total votes cast.

The recounts must begin no later than Dec. 8. The Franklin County Board of Elections will begin the recount of the races concurrently beginning at 9 a.m. on Dec. 4 at the Franklin County Board of Elections 1700 Morse Road, Columbus.
