Following an official recount, Jill Amos has won the final seat on Canal Winchester City Council by one vote.
According to Aaron Sellers, Franklin County Board of Elections public information officer, on the order of the Ohio Secretary of State, the board of elections conducted a recount of the Nov. 7 election for Canal Winchester City Council due to the closeness of the race.
Sellers said the recount, conducted Dec. 4-6, revealed no differences from the official results certified on Nov. 21.
“The originally declared results stand,” said Sellers.
The certified results from the Franklin County Board of Elections from the Nov. 7 election for Canal Winchester City Council are: (four elected): Patrick Lynch, 1,026; Mike Coolman, 975; Will Bennett, 962; Jill Amos, 940; Bob Toledo, 939; Bobbie Mershon, 922.
Recounts are required when there is less than one half of one percent difference between the declared winning candidate and the candidate who received the next highest number of total votes cast.
