Lily Butler and Derek Beckman, from The Mission Continues, paint a home in Prairie Township for the Rebuilding a Healthy Neighborhood program on Aug. 29. The program helps low-income senior citizens and disabled homeowners in need by providing repairs and improvements to their homes.

Modcon Living held its annual Rebuilding a Healthy Neighborhood program at the end of August.
Modcon Living, formerly called Rebuilding Together Central Ohio, is dedicated to helping low-income seniors and disabled homeowners in need by providing repairs to their homes.
Since 2018, the group has focused on improving one neighborhood in Prairie Township each year. This year, the work took place in the Rome Heights neighborhood.
“Unlike years past, this event was on a much smaller scale due to COVID-19, but still impactful for keeping our vulnerable populations warm, safe and dry,” said Caroline Beachy, community engagement manager for Modcon Living.
Modcon Living completed work on several homes in Prairie Township with less than 10 volunteers at each home. In previous years, more than 500 people have volunteered during each event and invested $400,000 in neighborhoods in contributed time, skilled labor, in-kind contributions, equipment and materials. Volunteers usually consist of local employees from regional corporations and community leaders.
With a focus on senior citizens, Modcon Living’s goal is to sustain homes and neighborhoods by providing reliable, affordable home repair and modification services, while serving vulnerable homeowners, according to its website.
