Israeli composer, singer and pianist Zlata Razdolina will perform at the JCC of Greater Columbus, 1125 College Ave., Berwick, at 7 p.m. Dec. 11. The performance is just one of many stops on her current tour of the United States and Canada.
Born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Razdolina’s repertoire consists of more than 600 romance and love songs composed from the texts of famous Russian classical poets, such as Anna Akhmatova, Nikolai Gumilyov, Osip Mandelstam, Marina Tsvetayeva, Aleksandr Blok, Igor Severyanin and Sergei Yesenin.
Her works include "Requiem: The Song of the Murdered Jewish People," which she performed in 1989 at the Kremlin in Moscow. An orchestral version of Requiem composed after the poem by Holocaust poet Itzhak Katzenelson, "The Song of the Murdered Jewish People," describes the extermination of the Jewish life in Warsaw.
Immigrating to Israel in 1990, she has written music for symphony orchestras, choirs, and chamber ensembles. In 1993, the famous Israeli singer, Dudu (David) Fisher dedicated a TV program to her music. She later composed the soundtrack of the Israeli television series "Kastner’s Trial," directed by Uri Barabash, which received the Israeli Oscar as the best dramatic series of 1994. Since then, she has composed song-cycles of the best-known Israeli poets, Rachel Bluwstein, Yakov Volakh, Natan Yehonatan, Lea Goldberg and others.
Razdolina will sing a few of her compositions, along with her favorite Yiddish songs during the performance at the JCC.
