Prairie Township trustees approved a request to add auto repair to the list of permitted uses for 480 South Grener Road on Jan. 30.

The building, owned by Scott Brothers Family Partnership, was re-zoned in 2005 to allow offices, storage, and retail. Twelve offices occupy the south end of the building and a retail carpet store is housed in the warehouse, which is also used for storage.

The modification to the original application will permit the use of three overhead doors in the rear entrance at Mix Avenue and one front overhead door on South Grener Road for an auto repair shop.

Two stipulations also accompanied the approval: that the repair shop pass all fire and state inspections in order to operate, and that the owner maintain the screening along Mix Avenue.

“We haven’t had any major complaints while he (the owner) has been there,” said trustee Steve Kennedy. Scott Brothers Family Partnership has owned the property for 10 years.

Because the change was considered a “minor modification,” according to the board of trustees, the application does not require a zoning amendment.
