Pooches on parade in West Jefferson

 
Hurt Battelle Memorial Library in West Jefferson held its first-ever Pooch Parade on Aug. 16. Seventeen dogs participated. Each owner received a certificate and a treat for his or her pooch. The winners were: (from left) smallest dog, Princess Sophia with owner Erica Blick; smartest dog, Domino with owner Brenda Park; cutest dog, Frodo with owner Chloe Stephenson; biggest dog, Max with owner Olivia Holloway; hairiest dog, Flower with owner Heidi Hamilton; and best dressed dog, Chacho with owner Armondo Dominguez.

Susan Maggard (left), library board trustee, and West Jefferson Mayor Scott Hockenbery serve as judges at the Pooch Parade.  In front of them are treats and prizes for the canine entrants.
