Pleasant Twp. approves tax budget

Pleasant Township Trustees agreed to the 2008 tax budget in a special meeting June 16, and forwarded it to the Franklin County Budget Commission.

The tax budget tells the township how much money it can expect to receive in the next fiscal period so the operating budget can be prepared.

Revenue is expected to be approximately $4,473,000 with the largest amounts going to the general fund – $1,175,00 – and the fire fund $2,205,000. Not all the funds will be spent, and there will be a carryover for the next year.

The operating budget will be drawn up at the end of this calendar year with input from each department and approved by the trustees at the start of next year.

This tax budget was prepared by taking into account actual income and expenditures for fiscal 2005 and 2006 and what is expected to be spent the rest of this year.

The budget was prepared by township fiscal officer Paula Wilkins and approved by the three trustees in a short meeting.

Wilkins, whose term expires in April, also said she will be seeking re-election in November. Wilkins was elected in 1991 and served four years. She lost her bid for re-election in 1995, but was appointed to the position when a vacancy occurred six months later. She has won favor with the voters in every election since.
