Things are about to get “dicey” at the Della Selsor.

On Feb. 5, the Madison County 4-H Committee will host a Bunco tournament at the Della Selsor Building on the Madison County Fairgrounds in London. The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost to participate is $20 and includes a lunch of sloppy joe or shredded chicken sandwich, chips and assorted sweets.

Bunco is an easy-to-learn game of luck played in teams with dice.

“Anyone who can throw three dies can play,” said Judy Gallimore, event organizer and 4-H Committee president.

Gallimore got the idea to hold a Bunco tournament to benefit Madison County 4-H after attending a similar event at Choctaw Lake benefitting cancer research. She was new to the game, but said it was easy to pick up and a fun way to socialize and help out a good cause.

“We’re always trying to think of ways to bring the community together,” she said.

Participants in the Feb. 5 event will play four rounds. Both children and adults are welcome to give it a roll. Area merchants and 4-H clubs have donated gift certificates and merchandise as prizes. A 50/50 raffle and a silent auction also are planned.

Proceeds will go toward scholarships for 4-Hers to attend camps. Possibilities range from a leadership and focus camp in Washington D.C. for older youths to summer camp at Camp Clifton for younger 4-Hers. The event also will help to fund 4-H clinics and education programming, as well as the four college scholarships the 4-H Committee awards each year, two for $500 each and two for $1,000 each.
