Groveport’s John Romonosky, 79, threw out the first pitch at the Columbus Clippers’ season opener at Cooper Stadium on April 3. Romonosky pitched for the old Columbus Red Birds minor league baseball team in the 1950s when the stadium was known as Red Bird Stadium. The Clippers won the game defeating the Charlotte Knights 5-1. This will be the last season for Cooper Stadium, which was built in 1932, as the Clippers will move to their new stadium downtown next season. |
