On Dec. 3, Uptown Plain City Organization’s (UPCO’s) Christmas Under the Clock will be held on Main (Route 161) and Chillicothe streets and spread out to Jefferson Avenue. The event is free to the public and begins at 5 p.m. To mark the 15th year, UPCO has stepped up the entertainment and activities.

As always, the tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. at the clock tower at Main and Chillicothe streets will feature local entertainment from Starlight Twirlers and more, including everyone’s favorite, Santa. The Tree Lighting Pixies, winners of the coloring contest, will light the tree. The clock will be there, one way or another.

After the ceremony, Plain City Auction is hosting a craft fair where crafters and direct sales vendors will sell homemade items, including tutus, key fobs, doll clothes, barn wood decor, quilted table runners, blankets, craft baking mixes, jewelry, candy, lip balm, leashes, aprons and yarn.

The traditional auction has been converted to a pick-a-prize-type raffle. Get tickets at Plain City Auction to choose which item or items you want to win from the raffle. Local businesses and crafters donated the prizes, including gift items, gift baskets, and crafts. Each children who attends the craft fair/raffle will receive a glow bracelet while quantities last.

Plain City businesses and organizations will hold open houses starting immediately after the tree lighting. At any participating business, pick up a copy of a map showing all of the open houses and the activities and entertainment they are providing. Enjoy hot drinks and refreshments. Enter the prize drawing for a $250 VISA gift card and local gift card pack at most participating locations.

If you can’t wait to see Santa again, hop the wagons that start at Lovejoy’s Plaza on Main Street and take you to Yoder’s True Value Hardware where pictures with Santa will be taken. From there, visit other open houses at businesses on Jefferson Avenue where many of the business have more opportunities to win from drawings. Be sure to check out the shuttles that will be moving visitors between the Jefferson Avenue businesses. Park uptown, take the wagons and shuttles and we’ll bring you back. Or do it all backwards.

Rock On Ice returns after a two-year hiatus. UPCO is sponsoring an ice carving. Once the ice carving is complete, Rock On Ice will carve kids’ names in ice. See it all at Lovejoy’s Plaza on Main Street but get there early if you want to see Rock On Ice do the carving.

Also at Lovejoy’s Plaza is the start of the wagon rides, ham and bean soup from UPCO, roasted chestnuts from UPCO and Plain City United Methodist Church, more entertainment, and local businesses. Businesses on Main Street will offer gift card drawings, kids’ crafts and cookie decorating. The library is holding a book sale.

On Jefferson Avenue, go for the gift baskets, hot chocolate bar, free gift wrapping, pictures with Rudolph, and plenty more.

UPCO will post the map in advance on its Facebook page so visitors can plan their evening. The event is finished at 8 p.m.

Christmas Under the Clock is presented by the UPCO and the Village of Plain City.  Proceeds from the raffle will go to UPCO, a 501(c)3, a volunteer organization dedicated to the revitalization of historic uptown Plain City.
