On Dec. 6, the seventh annual Plain City Christmas Under the Clock will be held at Main Street (Route 161) and Chillicothe Street in uptown Plain City. The event is free to the public and will begin at 5 p.m. with a tree lighting ceremony and continue until 9 p.m. with the prize drawing at Plain City Historical Society, 111 W. Main St.

This year’s grand prize is a $500 VISA gift card. Other prizes include gift certificates to participating Plain City businesses. Prize tickets are at participating open houses. The more open houses you visit, the more chances you have to win. Entrants need not be present to win.

The tree lighting ceremony will feature carolers, the Jonathan Alder High School band and Santa. After the ceremony, visitors are encouraged to make their way to Plain City Auction to bid on beautifully decorated wreaths donated by area businesses. Business open houses also will immediately follow the tree lighting ceremony. Enjoy hot drinks, refreshments and the opportunity to enter the prize drawing at each participating location.

Anyone who can’t wait to see Santa again can hop on the horse- and tractor-drawn wagons to Yoder’s True Value Hardware where pictures with Santa will be taken. Additional business open houses are planned on Jefferson Avenue. Or, take the wagon ride back to Lovejoy Plaza to get to the Plain City Historical Society for the prize drawing at 9 p.m.

Christmas Under the Clock is sponsored by the Uptown Plain City Organization and the Plain City Business Association, and brought to the public by the Village of Plain City. All proceeds from the wreath auction will benefit the Plain City Food Pantry and the Uptown Plain City Organization, a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and revitalize the historic business district in uptown Plain City.

Associate sponsors include Plain City Druggist, Plain City Lions Club, Plain City Auction, Mainstreet Treasures, Plain City Historical Society, Yoder’s True Value Hardware, Lovejoy’s Market IGA, Union County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Schrock Automotive, Plain City Animal Hospital, Vitoria Dance Company, Plain City Public Library, Citizens National Bank and Bliss Cash Register.
