Plain City: Ring in the holidays under the clock

Rock On Ice returns to Lovejoy’s Plaza again this year for ice sculpting demonstrations during Plain City’s Christmas Under the Clock.

On Dec. 2, Uptown Plain City Organization’s (UPCO) Christmas Under the Clock will take place on Main Street (Route 161), Chillicothe Street and Jefferson Avenue in Plain City. In its 16th year, the event is free to the public. A tree lighting ceremony at the clock tower at 5 p.m. kicks off the festivities.

As has become tradition, the tree lighting will feature a performance by the Starlight Twirlers and an appearance from Santa. The “tree lighting pixies,” winners of the coloring contest, will light the tree.

Plain City Auction is hosting a craft fair and Christmas raffle. Crafters will offer homemade items for holiday shopping. The pick-a-prize-type raffle includes items donated by local businesses and crafters.

In addition to the craft fair, business and organization open houses will start immediately after the tree lighting ceremony. Pick up a map at any participating location to see where all of the open houses, activities and entertainment are taking place. Several participating locations will be offering up hot drinks, refreshments, and prize drawings.

If you can’t wait to see Santa again, hop on the wagons that start at Lovejoy’s Plaza on Main Street and travel to Yoder’s True Value Hardware where Santa will pose for pictures. From there, visit other open houses at businesses on Jefferson Avenue. Be sure to check out the shuttles that will move visitors between the Jefferson Avenue businesses. Park uptown, take the wagons and shuttles, and organizers will bring you back. Or do it all backwards. Either way, you’ll be transported back to where you started. The wagons also will make stops at Daily Needs Assistance and Vineyard Church at the old elementary school.

Lovejoy’s Plaza is not only the place to be to hop on a wagon, but also the place to fill up on ham and bean soup from UPCO, enjoy more entertainment, and watch Rock On Ice ice sculpting demonstrations sponsored by Rummell-Brill Insurance.

Businesses on Main Street will keep you busy with gift card drawings, children’s crafts, the Plain City Public Library book sale, and cookie decorating. On Jefferson Avenue, go for the gift baskets and other raffle items, along with plenty of food and warm drinks.

UPCO will post the map in advance on its Facebook page. The event wraps up at 8 p.m.

Don’t miss this fun-filled, family friendly Christmas celebration!

Proceeds from the Christmas raffle go to UPCO, a 501(c)3 organization, to help fund community events, market uptown Plain City businesses, and support business grant programs.

This year’s Christmas Under the Clock partners are ASE Feed & Supply Store, Carlisle Gifts, Der Dutchman Restaurant, Edgewater Place Assisted Living, Foust Plumbing & Heating, Main Street Treasures, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Plain City Auction, Plain City Druggist, Plain City Historical Society, Plan City NAPA, Plain City Public Library, Richwood Banking Co., Rummell-Brill Insurance, Security National Bank, and Yoder’s True Value Hardware.
