On Dec. 16, Pickerington city council will host an open house with Canal Winchester for the purpose of discussing a joint economic development district (JEDD) between the two cities, Lancaster and Violet Township.

The cities intend for the JEDD to encourage economic development along U.S. Route 33 from near Bowen Road to Carroll. It would exclude the area currently in Canal Pointe (Meijer).

The term of the proposed agreement is 30 years during which time all parties would agree not to annex the land inside the JEDD area.

Only commercial properties within the JEDD borders may petition to enter the JEDD, and then they become subject to a 2 percent income tax otherwise not collected in township lands.

On Nov. 12, the contractor working on Diley Road plans to switch traffic onto the new west lanes and begin work on the east lanes, Service Director Ed Drobina said.
