Toy soldiers greet visitors at the entrance to Garrette Park, which will remain lit from 5:30 to 11 p.m. weekdays and 5:30 to midnight on weekends through Jan. 1. The archway is a new attraction at Christmas in the Park. The West Jefferson Ox Roast queens and their court participated in the lighted Christmas parade held Dec. 8.
The West Jefferson High School Gold Choir performs during opening ceremonies Dec. 7 for West Jefferson’s Christmas in the Park. Huddled up for a sleigh ride are: (from left) Chelsey Hughes, Sarah Cahill, Tasha Allen, Emily Bowens, Jenna Sterling, Stephanie Wood, Hanna Smith, Lauren Wood and Charlie Iams.
Santa arrives at Garrette Park in a horse-drawn sleigh. Sitting in the front seat with the driver from Pine Acres Reindeer Farm is Cory Coburn, vice president of the Christmas in the Park committee. Brenda and Gary Lightfoot share their holiday wish lists with Santa, who saw over 300 children during the Christmas in the Park celebration.
The Barton Family of West Jefferson donated 60-year-old Christmas decorations to Christmas in the Park. They still feature the original paint. The Posse band performs in the entertainment pavilion.
