With time and options running out, Franklin Heights quarterback, Rian Kennedy (above) chose to run for it, and did so for 43 yards covering both sides of the field, and found the end zone with 14 seconds left in the game. The touchdown run put the Falcons on top after a close, back and fourth game with Riverside Stebbins in the season opener. Coach Jeff Pica was extremely proud of his players after the game saying, “They played with a huge amount of heart and composure with their backs against the wall.” The 12-10 victory was a great start for the new program lead by Pica who came to Franklin Heights from Bloom-Carroll where he earned Mid State League Coach of the Year honors in 2005. In the bottom photo, Kennedy left, and junior, Jerrone Givens celebrate after the Aug. 24 victory.
