VFW donates to West Jeff pantry

Herman Fridley (left), commander of West Jefferson’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7005, and post trustee Lou Pieper (far right) present a check for $2,000 to Susan Maggard, director of the Good Samaritan Food Pantry at West Jefferson United Methodist Church, and Pauline Cullman, pantry volunteer coordinator. Every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas, Post 7005 donates to the pantry, the West Jefferson Community Association’s Adopt-A-Family, and the Jefferson Township Fire Fighters Toy Drive.

Funeral home donates to pantries

Dana Fisher (left) and Bill Eberle (right), owners of Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home and Crematory in London, present monetary donations to representatives of local food pantries: Nancy Penix of Food Thru Faith, Dee Heilman of HELP House, and Moe Wilson of Madison County Food Pantry. “These donations represent every family we have served for the last 12 months. We send each of them a card with a note that says we’ve made these donations on their behalf,” Eberle said.

Friend of Townships award

Michael K. Boerger (left), president of the Madison County Townships Association, presents Dr. James Herman, recently retired health commissioner for the Madison County-London City Health District, with the 2008 Friend of the Townships Award. Also on hand for the presentation, which took place on Dec. 8 at the annual Madison County Township Association Christmas party, were Linda Houser, president of the health district and Mary Ann Webb, the district’s new health commissioner.
