Winter is just no fun for some. Dozens of Canada geese and ducks wait for the ice to thaw in the pond near the business district on Gantz Road in Grove City. The normal popular spot for the birds froze last weekend with below freezing temperatures. In the early 1950s, the Ohio Division of Wildlife implemented a program that would bring Canada geese into the state permanently. Before that, they were simply winter visitors. ODNR says the geese are the most adaptable and tolerant of all native waterfowl. They will establish nests on any suitable pond and are protected by Ohio law. |
