Mayor Michael B. Coleman, Columbus City Council members and other city officials previewed five new Columbus fire emergency medic vehicles and two new ladders July 23. The new medics, which were lined up with the ladders in front of city hall, are currently located at Stations 8, 16, 20, 27 and 29. Each medic vehicle cost approximately $210,000 and was purchased with money from the city’s capital budget. In 2005, the Division of Fire released 10 new medics into service and 17 new medic vehicles are scheduled to arrive in early 2009. Columbus is the first major metropolitan city to have a medic stationed at every fire station. The Columbus Division of Fire currently has 32 fire stations and over 700 trained paramedics. The new trucks were locally manufactured by Horton Emergency Vehicles located in Grove City. |
