At 6:55 a.m. Feb. 6, 2014, the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived at the scene of a one-vehicle crash on I-71 northbound, south of milepost 83 in Madison County. Troopers found a blue 2002 Ford Explorer overturned in the median with heavy damage.
The Ford Explorer was driven by James A. Matthews, 64, of Canton, Ohio. Matthews was ejected during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.
As a result of the crash, one lane of I-71 southbound was shut down for approximately three hours while troopers began their investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Sterling Joint Fire / EMS Fire Department and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation by the West Jefferson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
