The London Rotary Club is pleased to honor senior Patrick Cooney as London High School’s May Student of the Month.
Students of the month are selected by school administrators based on their academic and extracurricular achievement and positive character.
Patrick has a 4.374 grade point average and is the valedictorian of the London’s Class of 2023. His favorite class is studio art. He is an Art IV student. He is senior class president and has served two years as student council treasurer.
Patrick is a 2023 In The Know winner and received the Honda-Ohio State STEM Award for 2023 and the Madison County Educational Service Center Community Star Award for 2023. He has been on the Merit Honor Roll 2020-2023 and been a member of the National Honor Society for two years.
In addition to his academic achievements, Patrick played football and golf for two years and tennis his senior year.
When asked to name a school staff person who inspires him, Patrick named art teacher Stacy Billiter.
“Mrs. Billiter is inspirational because she is always there for her students and always goes above and beyond to ensure their success,” he said.
About Patrick, Billiter said, “He is such a dedicated and responsible young man. He has figured out a nice balance: both fun and disciplined, driven yet laid back. Patrick is a calming presence that people gravitate towards and a leader among his peers. He is so deserving of what the next few years will bring him at Alabama and then Germany. I wish him the best of luck always.”
Patrick will attend the University of Alabama to study computer engineering. He is the son of Patrick and Christine Cooney of London.
