Ox Roast sets guidelines for royalty contests

The West Jefferson Ox Roast will take place Aug. 29 through Sept. 1. Royalty contests are part of the fun. Entry forms are available at: West Jefferson Hardware, 228 E. Main St.; McDonald’s, 285 E. Queen Contest

The Little Miss and Junior Miss contests will be held on Aug. 30 at 5 and 5:45 p.m. The Queen contest will be at 6:30.

Queen: Must be entering 9-12th grade, live in Madison County, wear a formal gown, and be available to participate in parades, luncheons and events. She would be required to represent the West Jefferson Ox Roast around Ohio.

Junior Miss: Must be entering 6-8th grade, live in Madison County, and wear a dressy dress.

Little Miss: Must be entering grades 3-5th, live in Madison County, and wear a dressy dress.

All participates will receive a certificate. Winners will receive a crown, trophy, flowers and sash.

 

The application deadline is Aug. 22.

Oxy Tot Contest

The Oxy Tot contest is open to girls ages 25 months to 4 years old. The contestant that receives the most points wins. Points cost 10 cents each.

Entrants must decorate a can and place it in an establishment of their choice. Put your name, parents’ names, address and phone number on the can. Parents are responsible for maintaining the can.

The contests runs through Aug. 30. Parents must bring the can to the festival grounds by 6 p.m. Aug. 30. A festival representative will count the points.

Each participant will receive a certificate and bag of goodies. The winner will receive a crown, trophy, flowers and sash. The winner will be announced at 11 a.m. Sept. 1, after the baby contest.

Baby and Sweetheart Contests

The Baby contest will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 1 on the main stage. Dress is casual or formal.

The age groups are: 0-6 months, 7-12 months, 13-18 months, and 19-24 months. Boys and girls will be judged separately.

The Sweetheart contest will be held at noon on Sept. 1. It is open to girls only, ages 5-7.

All participants will receive a certificate and goody bag. Winners will receive a trophy and other prizes.

The application deadline is Aug. 30.
