Lucinda Doersam was a positive presence in the classroom – as a teacher and administrator – and as the girls’ basketball coach at Groveport Madison High School in the first half of the 20th century. Pictured here is Coach Doersam’s 1925-26 Cruiser girls varsity basketball team that went 16-4, won the Franklin County League title, and continued the Lady Cruisers’ three year string of never losing a game on their home gym in what is now Groveport Elementary. The Cruisers outscored their opponents that year 517-283 with captain Irma White scoring 357 of those points and Edith Nelson scoring 127. In seven of their games, the Cruisers held their opponents to less than 10 points. Team members were, from left to right: (first row) Edith Nelson, Evelyn Sawyer, Irma White, Helen Roese, Mabel Dildine; (second row) Margaret Heil, Catherine Blosser, Eloise Wilson, Flossie McKee, Georgia Buchman, and Coach Lucinda Doersam.
