Hope United Methodist Church in Canal Winchester and Otterbein University are partnering to bring some of Otterbein’s top musical performance students to the area on Feb. 9. Students will perform a selection of vocal and instrumental pieces beginning at 4 p.m. at the church, located at 83 E. Columbus St. in Canal Winchester. A reception will follow where the performers will be on hand to visit with the attendees. The concert is free and open to the public. For information call 614-837-7548.

This performance is made possible through the generosity of Larry Stebelton, long-time member of Hope United Methodist and a 1953 alumnus of Otterbein. Although Stebelton did not make his career in musical performance, music has played a lasting role in his life. Even today, he continues to perform. With this concert, Stebelton hopes to share his love of music and appreciation of Otterbein’s Department of Music with his childhood church and the community.

Otterbein’s Department of Music is under the leadership and expertise of Dr. Dennis Davenport. Dr. Davenport teaches theory, music theatre history, and directs the Otterbein Singers. He also serves as Otterbein’s liaison to the Board of the Westerville Symphony and is the organist/pianist at Church of the Master United Methodist in Westerville.

Otterbein University’s Department of Music helps students hone their musical craft while preparing them for a career in music or lifelong enjoyment. Music students at Otterbein are mentored by master teachers of instruments and voice and have opportunities to participate in a variety of ensembles and performances on campus, off campus, and abroad. Music is not just limited to music majors. Students of all majors can continue to develop their talents and spread their love of music by participating in Otterbein’s diverse music ensembles.

Otterbein University, located in Westerville, is a regionally accredited liberal arts university. Founded in 1847, Otterbein has been recognized for its pace-setting ideals, its ground-breaking integrative studies curriculum, and its commitment to serve the public good. Hope United Methodist Church is proud to host this event for the enjoyment of the community.
