On Oct. 14, West Jefferson youngster Santino Carnevale and his family and friends will host a community tailgate party for the Ohio State University vs. Nebraska football game.

All proceeds will benefit The James-OSUCCC, specifically for head and neck cancer research, in memory of Santino’s father. Michael Carnevale passed away last year after a 10-year battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare type of head and neck cancer.

In the past three years, Santino has raised over $20,000 in his “Crusade for a Cancer-Free World.” He is well known in West Jefferson for his Labor Day weekend lemonade stand fundraiser. The OSU tailgate is his newest effort.

The tailgate starts at 4 p.m. and will take place in the parking lot at Pat’s Pizza & Pub, 55 E. Main St., West Jefferson. Children’s activities, music, a silent auction, raffle and beer truck are planned. A cornhole tournament will start at 5 p.m. Game time is 7:30.

In addition to attending the tailgate, the public can lend a hand by donating items for the silent auction and raffle. Those interested should contact Emmalee at (614) 961-9909 or emmalee.harding27@gmail.com.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to work the event should contact Brooke at (614) 419-7718 or bkcarnevale@gmail.com.

Monetary donations can be made to the Sheriff Jim Carnes Cancer Fund (Federal EIN 46-3001932) or online at www.go.osu.edu/Santino.
