Three presidents of The Ohio State University who are buried at Green Lawn will be recognized at the Dec. 1 First Saturday at Green Lawn program.
University Archivist Raimund E. Goerler will be talking about Edward Orton, the first president of OSU; William Oxley Thompson, whose 25-year tenure is the longest in university history; and Thompson’s successor George W. Rightmire.

The program celebrates the lives of people buried at Green Lawn who had an impact on life in central
Goerler’s presentation will focus on the three men as individuals as well as leaders and willl look at the legacy they left the area.
Refreshments will be served and visits to the graves of the three presidents will be offered.
Green Lawn, established in 1848 as a nonprofit association, has grown from its original 83 acres to 360 today with 80 acres yet to be developed. Nearly 150,000 people have been buried there in the past 159 years.

Volunteers also administer an Adopt-a-Lot project and a photo contest. The Adopt-a-Lot offers individuals and groups the opportunity to care for a gravesite that has no family members to tend to it.
The Thompson and Rightmire graves have been adopted through this program and are regulary being cared for.
