Ohio Art Academy students win at State Fair

Nineteen students from the Central Ohio Art Academy entered 215 pieces of art in the 2008 Ohio State Fair Junior Art Exhibition. They brought home 60 awards and two Best of Show Rosettes.

The following students were members of this championship team: Morgan Daniels, Pickerington, Best of Show; Marina Nudel, Reynoldsburg; Kelsey Darner, Pickerington; Jessica Littrell, Blacklick; Helen Casebolt, Pickerington; Jessica Motz, Pickerington; Jordan Melsoner, Pickerington; Sam Stone, Pickerington; Lukas Peraza, Pickerington; Clayton Wolfe, Pickerington; Sarah Paul, Reynoldsburg; Devin Helsel, Reynoldsburg; Danny Wiecek, Pickerington; Megan Weimar, Pickerington; Winnie Quach, Reynoldsburg; Tiffanny Quach, Pickerington; and Kyle Thompson, Reynoldsburg.

Lukas Peraza and Francie Zidonis were competitors in the first Ohio State Fair Spelling Bee.

Several Central Ohio Art Academy students were invited to meet with Governor Ted Strickland and Lt. Governor Lee Fisher at the Night With the Governor event, which was held at the fair’s Natural Resources Park July 31.

The students were asked to create projects that would represent how the arts are used to advance Ohio’s image and the public awareness in regard to Ohio’s natural resources.

Jessica Motz, Marina Nudel, Lukas Peraza, Aleksander Stepien, Kelsey Darner, Helen Casebolt and Jessica Littrell participated in the event.

Delilah Hetterschied, the Ohio State Fair arts and crafts assistant director, asked four students from the Central Ohio Art Academy to give demonstrations of their art in the DiSalle Building during the fair.

Marina Nudel (jewelry-earings), Kelsey Darner (color pencil), Jessica Littrell (pastel) and Helen Casebolt (pencil drawing) met this challenge on Aug. 3 and 10.
