Oh My Squash!

Downtown traffic came to a literal standstill in the afternoon of Sept. 30 as local emergency crews assisted in the transportation of a 952 pound squash to the Visit Grove City storefront at 3995 Broadway. The reason for this delicately planned operation was because the famed Columbus-based artist, Gus “Squashcarver” Smithhisler, was waiting inside of the guide and gear shop to work his magic to compliment the Harry Potter-inspired theme the store had established to celebrate Halloween. For more than five hours, Smithhisler carefully carved a picture of the boy who lived flying away from a fire-breathing dragon on his beloved broomstick. If all preservation protocols go according to plan, the public should be able to view the creation at the location through most of October.
