A slight drizzle on July 17 did not stop runners from participating in the Dr. Bender 5K Classic Walk/Run. Dr. John Bender, a 1960 Canal Winchester graduate never strayed far from his alma mater where he served as both a coach for the cross country and track teams. Bender passed away in 2013, but his children and grandchildren participate in the annual event. Jacob Thompson from Carroll took first place with a time of 15:12.93. The first place female runner overall was Karoline Pees of Ashville with a time of 20:32.18.
