Mount Sterling Community Center’s 4th Annual Walk-a-Thon is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 11. Walkers are asked to get pledges ahead of time. Sponsors can pledge any amount. All proceeds go to the operation of the center. The day of the walk, participants will follow a two-mile course around Mount Sterling. That same day, the center is holding an open house from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
“Last year, the walk-a-thon raised $7,000, which is equivalent to about one month of operating expenses for the center. This year, our goal is $10,000,” said Annie Tomlinson, executive director.
Funds raised will go toward utility bills, supplies and programming. The center’s regular activities run from the new Thursday Family Night to a food pantry, sewing classes, Bible study, open gym, toddler programs, after-school activities and counseling.
The Mount Sterling Community Center opened in July 2002 and has been located at 164 E. Main St. since February 2007.
