As the temperatures begin to cool off, downtown London will transform into a Christmas wonderland. The 1811 Downtown District is excited to bring this year’s Old Fashioned Christmas to life.

The event, set for 2-6 p.m. Nov. 26, invites residents and neighboring guests to celebrate the coming of the holidays. Characters from the Charles Dickens classic, “A Christmas Carol,” will greet visitors. Instrumentalists and carolers will perform live music. Children are encouraged to bring their wish lists as Santa Claus will be in town.

Activities this year include face painting, Christmas crafts, Christmas story reading, horse-drawn carriage rides, and balloon artists. Other activities around the community include performances from the London High School band and choir and cookie decorating at First United Methodist Church. McDonald’s will host characters from Whoville and Disney; visitors also can find Santa’s reindeer in the parking lot.

Prior to the start of Old Fashioned Christmas, the London State Theater will show “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” at noon.

Local shops will be open, and many will provide hot chocolate and/or other treats. Several food trucks will set up shop, too. First United Methodist Church will host their annual soup and sandwich dinner supporting Sufficient Grace and youth programs.
