The South-Western City Schools Board of Education has elected a new president and vice-president at its Jan. 8 meeting.
With unanimous approval, the board selected Lee Schreiner as president, following in the footsteps of his mentor, Cathy Johnson, who has served in that capacity for the previous two years.
Since his appointment to the board in 2013, and then his election the following year, Schreiner has served as both the vice-president of the board for the previous two years and has also served as the president of the Central Region of the Ohio School Board Association.
His term as president for the Central Region of the OSBA has recently expired, but Schreiner will remain a member of its executive committee.
After the meeting, Schreiner called the appointment as president of the board a humbling experience.
“I’m honored to serve,” he said.
Prior to joining the board of education, Schreiner was an educator with the district, teaching gifted and talented students at the elementary level for nearly four decades.
The board also unanimous selected Mindy Garverick to serve as vice-president.
Garverick has been a member of the board of education since 2008 and has served as its president in 2011, 2012 and 2014 and its vice-president in 2010 and 2013.
