Pickleball enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the new pickleball courts planned for Groveport Park.

On March 28, Groveport City Council authorized the issuance of $1.4 million in bonds to construct the courts, which will be located in the southeast part of Groveport Park, 7370 Groveport Road, near the baseball field.

According to Groveport City Engineer Steve Farst, the city is contracting with Miles-McClellan Construction to build the courts.

Farst said the project includes an eight pickleball court facility of over 2,400 square yards, nets, finished court surface treatment, fencing, 600 square yard concrete patio, sidewalks, water service and a water drinking fountain, shade structures, electrical circuits, electrical receptacles, and light poles and luminaires.

Work on the pickleball courts is expected to begin this spring and city officials will provide construction updates as work progresses.

Currently there are six pickleball courts sharing space with three tennis courts in Degenhart Park. City officials indicated the courts in Degenhart Park will remain as combination tennis and pickleball courts.

Groveport City Administrator B.J. King noted there is a growing demand for pickleball courts as the sport gains popularity. He said the new pickleball courts in Groveport Park will be for pickleball only.
