Michael Belmont will become principal of London Middle School effective Feb. 1.
He replaces Adelle Faulkner who submitted her resignation in November for the purpose of retirement. The school board approved a three-year contract for Belmont at an annual salary of $82,110.
Belmont has served as assistant principal at London High School for the past three years. Prior to his employment at London City Schools, he was assistant principal at Thurgood Marshall High School, part of Dayton City Schools. Earlier in his career, Belmont taught science at Trotwood Madison and Dayton Meadowdale high schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in education, both from Wright State University.
“I am excited to be given the chance to work alongside our teachers in order to serve the students and families at London Middle School,” Belmont said.
Superintendent Dr. Lou Kramer said Belmont’s prior experience, personality and commitment to the district matches well with the needs of the building.
“I am confident that students, parents and teachers will be excited to get to know Michael and will enjoy working with him,” Kramer said. “Ultimately, I believe he possesses everything needed to help London Middle School be a positive and successful place for our kids.”
Belmont was selected as principal after he met with a large group of middle school staff members who commended him for this enthusiasm, experience, and dedication to the district.
Belmont will transition into his new role by attending building meetings and school events in December and January. An effort to find his replacement at the high school will begin immediately.
