It will be the same Superhero fun but with a different route and time this year as the 5K returns to the London Rib & Jazz Festival.

The London Kiwanis Club has accepted the torch from Access Cowling to organize the Superhero Run, Walk & Roll 5K. This will be the third year for the family-friendly run, originally started as a fundraiser for improvements at Cowling Park.

The race will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 2, a change from the Saturday morning start time. Additionally, participants will begin and end in the heart of the festival as before, but instead run along the bike trail.

London Kiwanis President Zahid Siddiqi said the non-profit “couldn’t resist” the opportunity to take over a race coinciding with the festival.

“The race is a great deal of fun for all types of runners—serious road racers, casual runners, walkers and even those with disabilities,” he said. “We hope there is excellent turnout for the race, which we hope will also boost attendance for the festival.

Registration cost is $30 and includes a T-shirt.

Proceeds benefit the work of the London Kiwanis Club, which donates thousands of dollars each year to organizations such as the London Area Baseball Council, Raider Rack and London Fireworks. Additionally, the club provides scholarships to high-schoolers at London and Madison-Plains, donates backpacks stuffed with school supplies, funds the London Kiwanis Soccer League, and organizes the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Cowling Park, among other activities.

Volunteers dressed as superheroes will once again line the route. Medals will be awarded for the winners in each age group.

Register for the race at RunSignUp.com (search for London Jazz & Ribfest 5K). Forms can also be picked up from a member of the London Kiwanis or at Wilson’s Printing and Graphics, 158 S. Main St., London.

Registration must be completed by July 28 to secure a T-shirt.
