National Night Out party at WJ pool

West Jefferson is hosting National Night Out from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 at the municipal swimming pool, 45 Inwood Road.

“We invite everyone to join us as we celebrate our community and its partnerships with those who help keep us safe,” said Marci Darlington, West Jefferson parks and recreation director.

Admission is free. Food, music, live demonstrations, balloons, face painting, a bounce house and giveaways are planned. Med Flight will arrive at the Jefferson Township Fire Department lot at 6 p.m.

Participants who visit each of the following displays at National Night Out will be registered for prizes: Target, Jefferson Township Fire and EMS, West Jefferson Police Department and police dog Arc, Battelle Darby Metro Park, Hurt-Battelle Memorial Library, PAX, AEP, Madison County Emergency Management Agency, Duke Realty, Quinlan Karate, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Ohio Attorney General’s Office Missing Persons Unit, Make a Difference Day, 2-1-1, and Ohio State Highway Patrol.

National Night Out was established in 1984 as an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. West Jefferson has celebrated National Night Out for over four years.

Other upcoming events

  • Community Night—On Aug. 5, the village will screen a feature movie at dusk at the pool. Admission is free starting at 8 p.m. Participants can swim, enjoy the movie and snacks, and have their pictures taken with Chewbacca and a storm trooper.
  • Canine Swim—The last day for the pool season is Aug. 21. On Aug. 22, dogs can swim for free from 5 to 8 p.m. Swimming that day will be for dogs only.
