Huber selected for Sideline Spirit contest

Althon Sports has selected Ashley Huber from Ohio University to represent her school, community and the non-BCS category in round one of this year’s Athlon Sports Sideline Spirit(tm) Contest.


Voting for round one of the contest began Sept. 1 and will run through Sept. 21. No registration is necessary to vote and there is no limit to the number of times a person can vote. For information and to place your vote, visit


Huber, a 2004 graduate of Pickerington High School Central, is entering her senior year at Ohio University in Athens. She is majoring in moderate/intensive intervention specialist (special education) and is consistently named to the College of Education dean’s list. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, student council for exceptional children and a volunteer for the Special Olympics.


Huber was able to overcome a serious injury (broken leg in two places during her junior year in high school) and still persevere to become a collegiate cheerleader.

•John Froehlich, a 2007 graduate of Groveport Madison High School, has received an Alumni Scholarship from Denison University.

Military news

•Navy Seaman Recruit Andrew Lowry, son of Leslie Lowry of Lewis Center, Ohio and Keith Lowry of Pickerington, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command,  Great Lakes, Ill. Lowry is a 2006 graduate of Pickerington High School North.

•Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Christopher Johnson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Clayton and Stacey Johnson of Groveport, Ohio. Johnson is a 2006 graduate of Groveport Madison High School.
